CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 13, 2025) – The Truett McConnell University Athletic department is excited to welcome
Michael Shea as the new Head Men's Volleyball Coach. Shea joins TMU with 25 plus years of experience coaching indoor men's volleyball, beach volleyball and mentoring athletes in their spiritual walks with Christ.
"Coaching men's volleyball at the college level has long been a dream of mine," said Shea. "Doing this job in a place where I can also be a part of discipling young men in their pursuit of Jesus allows me to marry two of my passions. Joining the staff at Truett McConnell is an incredible blessing for me and my family. I'm looking forward to building on the foundation that has been laid for this growing program on our way to a lot of wins!"
In 2011 and 2013 Shea was named the New York High School Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year, after leading the Oswego Buccaneers to the state final four. Shea has spent the last few years coaching high school men's volleyball, and women's volleyball as a volunteer assistant with Binghamton University. Mike spent 16 years on staff as area director in Oswego, New York, and Jacksonville, Florida with non-profit association Young Life, whose mission is devoted to introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.
Shea, a Vestal, New York native graduated from Vestal High School in 1994 and holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Roberts Wesleyan College (1998). While at RWC, Shea competed in track and field, cross-country, men's indoor volleyball, and beach volleyball.
Shea and his wife Ginny have five children, Colin (18), Eliza (17), Owen (14), Jonathan (11), and Gwyneth (7).
