Cleveland, Ga. - The Truett McConnell Women's Lacrosse team hosted Brenau University on Saturday afternoon. The matchup was highlighted by the Lady Bears celebrating Senior Day in honor of four seniors:
Rachel Brown,
Kaitlynn Kubin,
Olivia Godfrey, and
Emily Shamblin.
Having come off a tough loss to Point University on Thursday afternoon, the Lady Bears came out strong showing much improvement from their previous game. Within nine minutes in the first half, the Lady Bears went up 2-0 on Brenau off of two goals from
Mckenzie Noggle, one of which was assisted by
Desmond Batcheldor. The remainder of the half would be feature the Lady Bears filling up the back of the nets.
Kaitlynn Kubin would score on her own with thirteen minutes left in the first half.
Rachel Brown would add on three goals as well to put the Lady Bears up 6-0 over Brenau heading into halftime.
The Bears would strike first in the second half off of a goal by
Amanda Williams, which was assisted by
Olivia Anderson, two minutes in. Brenau would respond a few minutes later with a goal to put the score at 7-1. Kubin added another goal to the stat sheet fifteen minutes into the second half that was assisted by
Olivia Godfrey to put the Lady Bears up 8-1.Â
The game intensity would pick up between both sides as the match was coming to a close. Brenau would bring the score close, but the Lady Bears would push away to get the win on Senior Day by a score of 12-7.
Coach Hoyt had this to say about his team's performance and his first career win here at Truett McConnell, "We pulled out the win, and I am thankful for our seniors for coming out and playing hard for us. I know we are here for bigger and better things. I want to thank the staff at Truett McConnell for putting all of this together for us. This win was big for us, especially with it being in conference against Brenau. I am thankful for where we are at and the direction we are going as a program."
