Women's Lacrosse secures win in AAC opener

MONTREAT, N.C. (March 14, 2026) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team traveled to face Montreat College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Lady Bears earned a hard-fought victory, 17-10. TMU rises to an overall record of 2-3, 1-0 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Cavaliers struck first with back-to-back goals in the opening minutes to take an early 2–0 lead. Josslyn Munn put the Lady Bears on the board midway through the first quarter, but a quick response from MC gave the opposing team a two-goal advantage once more. TMU began to find its rhythm shortly after as Aisley Whipple scored to cut the deficit to one. Marlo McBrayer followed with a goal to even the score, and Whipple added two more in the final minutes of the quarter to cap a four-goal run and give the Lady Bears a 5–3 lead heading into the second. Whipple opened the second quarter with another goal to extend the advantage, but Montreat answered with two straight scores to trim the lead to 6–5. TMU quickly responded as Whipple found the back of the net again before Munn converted on a player-up opportunity. McBrayer added another goal moments later to stretch the Lady Bears' lead to 9–5. Montreat managed a late player-up goal just before halftime, sending the teams into the break with TMU leading 9–6.
 
McBrayer continued her strong performance in the third quarter, scoring three straight goals for the Lady Bears to build a 12–6 lead. Montreat fought back with three unanswered goals to close the gap to 12–9 late in the period. Munn halted the run with a goal just over a minute remaining in the quarter, and McBrayer followed seconds later off an assist from Whipple to give TMU a 14–9 advantage heading into the fourth. McBrayer opened the final quarter with another goal to push the lead to six. Whipple later added to the tally on an assist from Munn before Ella Ward converted on a player-up opportunity, also assisted by Munn, to extend the margin to 17–9. MC managed to score once more in the closing minutes, but the Lady Bears maintained control to secure the 17–10 victory.
 
LEADERS
McBrayer led the way for the Lady Bears with seven goals, three ground balls and two draw controls. Whipple followed with six goals, while Munn had three goals, four ground balls and three draw controls. Ward was featured recording one goal paired with four ground balls. Goalie Sally Marcum was featured recording 16 saves.
 
UP NEXT
TMU will travel to face Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday, March 19 for a non-conference match-up. First draw set for 5:00 p.m.
