CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 2, 2025) - On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team hosted Montreat College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Lady Bears secured their first conference win of the season, 19-8. TMU rises to an overall record of 3-9, 1-3 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Caelyn Hatcher started the Lady Bears off with a goal early in the first quarter. Shelby Nail and Marlo McBrayer followed up quickly with goals of their own followed by a good goal by Maddie Donnelly. A shot from Savannah Watkins also saw the back of the net, while a second goal from Donnelly concluded the first quarter with a 6-0 lead. In the second quarter Aisley Whipple placed a shot in the back of the net, followed by a goal by McBrayer. A final goal by Hatcher and three consecutive goals by Nail to conclude a dominating first half for the Lady Bears, 12-1.
In the third quarter Nail continued to the momentum for TMU with another well placed goal. Goals by Hatcher and Watkins gave the Lady Bears confidence going into the fourth as TMU held their lead over MC, 16-4. Four final goals by the visiting team attempted to create a comeback for the Cavaliers but was quickly shut down as final goals by Nail and McBrayer solidified a TMU win, 19-8.
LEADERS
Nail led the way for TMU with 6 goals, taking 11 shots, nine on goal and two assists. McBrayer followed with four goals, while Hatcher and Watkins had three goals a piece. Donnelly recorded two goals while Whipple had one goal. Goalie Sally Marcum was featured recording seven saves on the evening.
