CLEVELAND, Ga. – Truett McConnell competitive gaming has started the 2026-2027 season in a historic way. The Roaring Bears team defeated the South Dakota Coyote Rivals team and the North Carolina A&T Aggie Esports MR Rising team to start the Marvel Rivals series.
 
The two wins are the first wins over NCAA Division I programs in the Bears six years as a program. They won the first match 3-1 before winning the first round of the second match on Sept. 28, resulting in a forfeit from the Aggies.
 
On Sept. 21, the team won the first two rounds with scores of 2-0 and 3-0 to go up 2-0 in the match, which follows a best of five decision. The Coyotes took the third round 3-0 before a 3-0 score in the fourth round went in favor of the Bears.
 
After taking the first round 2-1 against the Aggies, A&T forfeited the match, giving TMU the second win of the season.
 
The next match for the Roaring Bears will occur next Monday on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. The opponent for the match is currently unknown.
