Competitive gaming concludes 2022-23 season

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 30, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University competitive gaming team closed out their 2022-23 season on Wednesday after battling the Amcats Esports in the NACE Region Playoffs, where the Bears fell to final score of 3-0. TMU concludes their season with a final overall record of 4-12, while recording the first official program win against Capitol Tech on March 22nd in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (3-1).

"This year we have really made progress within the group dynamic of the competitive gaming team," said Head Coach Joseph Winkler. "Getting competition alone has really brought Truett McConnell to a new light within the esports community. Being apart of leagues like GEL, AVGL and of course NACE Startleague in tournaments has helped us grow substantially. Entering in esports tournaments in Multiversus, Esports Chess, Rainbow 6 Siege, Overwatch 2 and COD MW2 has given us a foundation to get comfortable in competition."

OVERWATCH 2 (February 7-February 28)

"Starting the spring semester off we were broadcasted on NACE Starleague against Blinn College. While receiving forfeits and not being able to compete, the Overwatch 2 season was cut short due to ranking differences amongst our team internally and through the league. We ended up with a 2-2 record and began focusing on pushing our ranks to become more competitive. We have two current players Master rank in support and the rest of the team ranked Platinum. This helps with recruiting and solidifying ourselves as an esports team. Using KovaaKs aim trainers, we have increased our performance for Overwatch 2 and look forward to pickign back up with competition next year."

CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2 (February 8- March 29)

"As we started our season on CoD MW2 we had many close games, but we never could secure ourselves a win. Early in the season, we obtained a forfeit and continued to battle through before earning Truett McConnell's first ever competitive win in the books to end the season. After finishing top six in our division, we continued to compete in the playoffs. We played a tough match, but were honored to make it as far as we did being a newer team in the league. As we continue to grow in MW2, I am excited for the fall season."

"As we look forward to growth in the fall by adding a Grandmaster in League of Legends, we plan to add more high caliber gamers amongst the team. Spreading the mission of a biblical world view in a life sport such as esports really sets our team apart from other programs. All glory be to God for allowing us to have the season we have had this year. Having our first national qualifier in Esports Chess, along with the programs first competitive team win is more than I as a coach envisioned this year. We will continue to give the glory to God as we move into our fall season and are excited to get back at it real soon."
