Men’s track & field finish fifth at AAC Championship

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (April 22, 2023) – On Friday-Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's track and field team traveled to compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Montreat College, where the Bears finished fifth overall with a final team score of 91 points. Montreat College was crowned AAC Meet Champions.
 
Leading the way for the Bears in the field events was Seth Fowler who finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.58m, setting a new school and personal record. Austin Mathis followed in fourth with a mark of 13.89m while Dylan Simms finished in fifth with a mark of 13.40m. Mathis also finished in third in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.64m, setting a new school and personal record as well. In the javelin throw, Fowler finished in third (46.69m) while Simms finished in eighth (41.35m). In the discus throw, Mathis was featured finishing in fourth (43.34m) followed by Fowler in fifth (42.58m) and Simms in eighth (41.36m). Jeremiah Giddens finished in sixth in the high jump, jumping a height of 1.76m.
 
The 4x100m relay team, featuring Giddens, Cameron Alamia, Garry Oaks, and Brett Wilgus, finished in fourth with a time of 41.57 seconds while also punching their ticket to NAIA Nationals in May. The 4x800m relay team, featuring Connor Morgan, Luke Palmer, Bryson Swartz, and Donald Swinson, finished in second (7:53.59), while the 4x400m relay team, featuring Swinson, Morgan, Colby Liesen and Nathan Nix, finished in third (3:23.81). 
 
In the individual running events, Cameron Alamia led the way finishing first in the 200m dash (21.13) and second in the 100m dash (10.53). Chandler Bagley was featured finishing in third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.45 seconds. In the 800m run, Connor Morgan finished in fifth with a time of 1:54.97. Rounding out TMU's results, in the 5000m race walk, Adam Granade finished in sixth (37:55.58) while Kris Fuller finished in eighth (44:41.52).
 
Up next, the Bears will head to Life University on Saturday, May 5th, to compete at the Life U Last Chance Qualifier. The Bears while continue to prepare for the NAIA National Championship set to begin on May 24th in Marion, Indiana.
