Game 1
The Bears sent Senior
Hayden Carey to the mound to start Game 1 of the series. Carey pitched a very efficient game throwing a total of 7.0 innings allowing only 4 hits. The Bears offense gave Carey an ample amount of run support, scoring ten runs in the shortened 7 inning game due to mercy rule. The Bears had all facets of their offense clicking as all nine starters had a hit in Game 1. Of all the hits by the Bears on the afternoon, the game was highlighted with a great day by
Austin Bishop going 3-4 and
Patrick Overstreet going 2-4 with 4 RBIs. The Bears would come out with a great win 10-0.
Game 2
The Bears did not skip a beat in Game 2 of the series as the offense went to work again chasing the starting pitcher out of the game in just the second inning; the Bears put up 9 runs in the second inning alone. This lead gave Greg Elder plenty of run support as he earned the win for the Bears on the mound. The Bears scored a total of 19 runs in the game as ten different batters recorded a hit in the contest.
Evan Bensch was a tough out as he reached base 5 out of 6 of his at bats.
Davis Dasher went 2-4 with 4 RBIs, in addition to Johnston and Thomas who each had multi-RBI games for the Bears. The Bears took Game 2 of the series with a final score 19-5.
Game 3
As the Bears looked to sweep the Montreat Caveliers, Freshman
Craig Barton was sent to the mound to pitch for Bears. Barton was incredible in his last start against Milligan. Barton remained true to form as he dealt on the mound for the Bears with giving up a sole run in the bottom of the 2nd inning in his 8.0 innings of work. The Bears offense broke through in the 4th inning when
Patrick Overstreet drove Johnston home on a ground out up the middle to tie the game at 1-1. In the 6th inning,
Evan Bensch stepped to the plate and drove a ball over the wall in right field for his third HR of the season, which pushed the Bears ahead 3-1. The Bears tacked on one more run in the 7th inning. With the score at 4-1,
Nick Hammonds relieved Barton in the 9th inning, earning the save as he retired the side. The Bears finished Game 3 and the sweep of the series with a 4-1 win.
