Women's Volleyball Preview: Union Commonwealth/Johnson

The Lady Bears continue conference play at home in a two-match weekend.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Truett McConnell women's volleyball returns home to the Harris Athletic Complex for a duo of Appalachian Athletic Conference matches vs. Union Commonwealth on Friday and Johnson on Saturday.
 
The Lady Bears are 16-6 overall and hold a 6-2 conference record in AAC play. They started this week with a 3-0 win over Spartanburg Methodist on the road. The team has gone 2-2 in its last four contests and is fourth in the conference standings.
 
Truett has lost the past two to the Bulldogs in the series, suffering losses of 3-1 and 3-0 in 2024 and 2025. It last took a win in 2023 with a 3-2 score in Barbourville. Union has dominated the series since 2013, winning 15 of 16 matches.
 
Since 2021, Johnson and TMU have split the series through six games, with the Royals also winning the past two matchups, including a 3-0 win in 2025. The Lady Bears last defeated Johnson in Cleveland in 2021.
 
The Bulldogs hold a 6-11 record overall in 2026 with a 3-5 mark in AAC matches. It went 4-6 in the month of September, finishing the month with back-to-back losses to Columbia International and Bryan. The team currently stands at ninth in the AAC standings, two games back behind Johnson.
 
Offensively for the Bulldogs, Jersey Glass leads with 2.25 kills per set while Rylee Stookey has 110 kills overall. Sloan Coursey is the main setter for the team with 4.97 assists per set and 288 total. On the serve, Charlotte Juettner leads with 31 total aces and 0.51 per set, which is fourth in the AAC.
 
Defensively, Aracely Nunez averages 4.48 digs per set and has 273 digs in total, which ranks fifth and fourth in the conference.
 
For the Royals, Zowee Dillard leads offensively with 196 total kills, which is third most in the conference. Makiyah Greenlee is also a threat with 2.06 kills per set. On the back line, Anna Birling totals 240 digs, fifth in the conference, and 3.93 d/s. Ariah Gourley is also a leader at the net with 39 total blocks.  
 
For Truett, Faith Clarkson is the kill leader with 1.90 per set and 146 total while Julia Fisher is recording 1.68 kills per set. Recently, Alexis Mills has taken control with four straight double-digit kill matches from Sept. 19-26. Caroline Yeager and Grace Lamontagne control the set with 237 and 243 assists, respectively. The former had a standout performance on Sept. 19, producing 21 assists and 16 digs in the 3-2 win over Reinhardt. Yeager also leads on total aces with 32.
 
Adleigh Schwier is the primary libero with 168 total digs and 2.15 digs per set. As a team, TMU ranks first in total aces and aces per set.
