SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Truett McConnell women's volleyball (16-6, 6-2 AAC) picked up its sixth Appalachian Athletic Conference win with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) victory over Spartanburg Methodist College (2-14, 1-7 AAC) Tuesday evening.
Jade Seaman led the team on the set with a career-high 18 assists on the night.
Elizabeth Cook collected five blocks at the line while
Julia Fisher produced 14 digs defensively.
The Pioneers opened things up in the first set with a 6-0 lead in set one to take control early. Trailing 12-6, the Lady Bears powered a 9-1 scoring run to take a two-point lead. Another 7-1 run, which included six attack errors by SMC, put TMU in the driver's seat late in the set. A final kill by
Claudia Yates ended the set and gave the Lady Bears the 1-0 match lead.
With a 12-9 score in favor of Spartanburg, Truett rattled off ten unanswered points to go in front by seven. SMC drawled within four with a 6-1 run late, but The Lady Bears pulled away scoring three of the final four points of the set.
In the third set, it was TMU that started in front with a 10-6 score. With a run of 6-2, the Pioneers evened the set at 12-12 before five Lady Bear points gave the advantage right back to the away team. Up by four, Truett scored the final six points of the match to compete the three-set win.
The Lady Bears return home on Friday night with a 6:30 p.m. match vs. Union Commonwealth at the Harris Athletic Complex.
