CLEVELAND, Ga. – Truett McConnell women's volleyball (15-6, 5-2 AAC) dropped its second match of the weekend 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17) to Bryan (10-7, 4-3 AAC) on Saturday.
Alexis Mills tallied a fourth-straight double-digit kill match, scoring a team-leading 13 through four sets. At the line,
Anna Forbus totaled six blocks on the day, the second time this season she has produced over five denials.
The Lions outhit the Lady Bears .181 to .086 and compiled 52 kills as opposed to 40 for the home team. They also won in the assists (52-39) and digs (87-74) categories.
BC raced out to a 9-5 start before using a 6-2 scoring run to go up by seven. Helped by two kills from Forbus, the Lady Bears fought back with a 5-2 run, cutting the deficit to four. With a 23-18 lead late, Bryan used a kill and an attack error by TMU to take the first set.
The Lions again took the advantage in the second set with a 7-4 score. Truett, with a 4-1 run, climbed back and tied the set at 8-8. With BC up 16-15, the Lady Bears scored five of the next six points to take a three-point lead. A final 5-2 scoring run which featured a set-ending kill by
Julia Fisher tied the match at 1-1.
In set three, it was the Lady Bears who started on top, using four Lion errors for an 8-5 lead. Bryan roared right back with a 5-1 run, giving it the lead. The set was tied at 13-13 before a 5-1 stretch for the away team resulted in a five-point lead. TMU had life late in the set with a 4-1 run, but an attack error gave the Lions the 25
th point and the 2-1 match lead.
The start of set four was all Bryan with a commanding 13-4 lead. The Lady Bears came back with a 9-2 scoring run, narrowing the Lion lead to a duo of points. With just a single point separating the squads, BC scored six of the next seven points to take control late before another 3-0 run ended the set and the match.
The Lady Bears are back next Tuesday night with a 6:30 p.m. start time scheduled at Spartanburg Methodist College.
