BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (April 22, 2023) –
On Friday-Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's track and field team traveled to compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Montreat College, where the Lady Bears finished in fourth overall with a final team score of 119 points. Montreat College was crowned AAC Meet Champions.
Leading the way for the Lady Bears was
Myesha Hall, who finished first in the long jump (6.14m), first in the 100m dash (12.10), first in the 200m dash (25.33) and fourth in the triple jump (11.34m). Individually, Hall was awarded the women's AAC Track Athlete of the Year award. Along with finishing first in the long jump, Hall also set the AAC Meet record and is now ranked No. 2 in the NAIA national standings.
The 4x100m relay team, featuring
Amya Arnold, Hall,
Brooke Wilmoth and
Esther Nakanwagi, finished in second with a time of 47.86 seconds while also punching their ticket to NAIA Nationals in May. The 4x400m relay team, featuring Nakanwagi,
Trenyonna Allen, Sara Owen and Hall, followed finishing in second as well (4:05.33), while the 4x800m relay team, featuring Owen,
Simone Chock,
Elle Sims, and
Savannah Campbell, finished in third (10:16.25).
In the javelin throw,
Katilyn Babb finished in first with a mark of 40.67m, while
Grace Jones finished in third with a mark of 34.25m. Jones also finished in sixth in the shot-put throw (11.38m) and fifth in the discus throw (37.22m), setting a new school and personal record. Babb was also featured finishing in sixth in the discus throw with a mark of 36.30m. Rounding out TMU's results in the field events, Nakanwagi finished in sixth in the triple jump (10.97m).
In the 400m dash, Nakanwagi finished in third with a time of 1:00.25. Campbell followed finishing third in the 10000m run (41:01.81). In the 400m hurdles, Allen was featured finishing in third (1:07.92), while Autumn Shepard finished in seventh (1:11.59). Nakanwagi was also featured finishing fourth in the 200m dash (26.45), while Arnold finished in eighth (27.07). Owen found a fifth-place finish in the 800m run (2:22.28) while also finishing in eighth in the 1500m race (4:55.89). Rounding out TMU's results in the individual running events, Allen finished in eighth in the 100m hurdles (17.10).
Up next, the Lady Bears will head to Life University
on Saturday, May 5th, to compete at the Life U Last Chance Qualifier. The Lady Bears wile continue to prepare for the NAIA National Championship set to begin
on May 24th in Marion, Indiana.
