Women's track & field finish sixth at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 10-11, 2023) - On Friday, the Truett McConnell University women's track & field team traveled to compete at the two-day Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The Lady Bears finished 6th out of 19 on the weekend with a final team score of 57 points.

"This weekend was our first DI meet of the year covering two days of great competition," said Head Coach Joe Imhoff. "I'm very proud of this team and the work they have put in all year. The school records, PR's and great performances this early in the season, is a testament to the hard work that each athlete puts in everyday. I'm excited for the rest of the season and looking forward to many more great track meets."

Leading the way for the Lady Bears on day one was Myesha Hall in the long jump, placing first with a mark of 5.61 meters. In the field events, the javelin throw saw Katilyn Babb finish fifth (35.61 meters), while in the hammer throw, Grace Jones finished sixth, setting a new school and personal record of 37.05 meters. In the running events, Savannah Campbell finished runner-up while also setting a new school record in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 39:20.67. The 4x200 meter relay team, featuring Hall, Brooke Wilmoth, Esther Nakanwagi and Amya Arnold, finished third with a time of 1:47.37.

On day two, leading the Lady Bears once again was Hall as she took another first place finish in the triple jump, qualifying for NAIA nationals in May, and setting a new school and personal record (11.73 meters). Jones followed with a fourth place finish in the women's shot put, throwing a mark of 11.87 meters. Rounding out TMU's results was the 4x400 meter relay team, featuring Nakanwagi, Trenyonna Allen, Hall, and Sara Owen, who finished fifth with a time of 4:12.34.

Up next, the Lady Bears will head to Atlanta, Ga. on Friday, March 17 to compete at the two-day, Emory Spring Break Classic, hosted by Emory University.
