Lady Bears drop season opener at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Oct. 28, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to compete in their 2022-23 season opener at Faulkner University, where the Lady Bears battled hard but fell 51-88. TMU falls to a record of 0-1, while the Eagles rise to 1-0.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears started early with a three-pointer from Sydnie Smith, followed by a shot in the paint from Camilla Callihan to give an early lead. The Eagles were persistent and quickly took the lead. A three-pointer from Re'Tavia Floyd kept TMU within margin, where a layup from Kacie Williams closed the first period with the Lady Bears trailing (14-25). In the second period, TMU saw a three-pointer from Floyd followed by two free throws. A shot in the paint from Quan Holton closed the gap, followed by a layup from Floyd. The Eagles continued to push forward, leaving TMU to trail 25-44 going into the half.

In the third period, TMU was first on the board with a shot in the paint from Holton. The Eagles continued to add to their lead, forcing the Lady Bears to work from behind. A layup from Chloe Williams sent the Lady Bears into the fourth period, training 42-68. The fourth period saw a shot from Smith, followed by a three-pointer from Floyd. As the Eagles grew their lead, a shot from Callihan was the last hope, leaving the Lady Bears to fall 51-88. 


LEADERS
Floyd led the way with 15 points, going 2-2 from the freethrow line. Holton tallied 13 points, going 3-4 from the freethrow line, with five rebounds. Callihan recorded six points, going 2-3 from the freethrow line, with two rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will remain on the road for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against St. Andrews Univeristy on Friday, November 4. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
