Lady Bears late rally not enough, fall against Point

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Dec. 4, 2021) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team went face to face with Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Point University, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Lady Bears battled to the end, but fell just short of victory with a final score of 47-46. TMU's record fell to 4-5, 2-5 AAC, while the Skyhawks improved to a record of 9-0, 6-0 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY

In the first quarter, the Lady Bears secured the first lead with a jumper in the paint from Jessica Jackson. Jackson followed with a three pointer and a Sydnie Smith shot in the paint. TMU continued to add to their score, but the Skyhawks managed to capture the lead, leaving TMU behind 13-14 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, a layup from Re'Tavia Floyd followed by a shot from behind the three point arc from Alysee Dobbs recaptured the lead. Both teams continued to gain speed, but the Skyhawks had the lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, TMU continued to battle and a nine point rally managed to close the deficit. Another Dobbs three pointer, free throws from Smith and a shot in the paint from Camilla Callilhan left TMU down 35-41 going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, both teams were even in play, but a layup from Quan Holton sparked a gain in momentum or the Lady Bears. A shot in the paint from Callihan and a three pointer from Floyd brought the Lady Bears within three points. A shot fro Callihan put TMU one away from sealing the win but the Lady Bears ultimately fell to a final score of 46-47. 

LEADERS

Callihan led the way with 10 points on the evening, going 2-3 at the free throw line and tallying five rebounds. Smith followed with nine points of her own, going 3-4 with shots in the paint. Holton contributed 11 rebounds and eight points, going 4-9 from within the paint. Dobbs had a total of eight points on the evening, going 2-3 from behind the three point arc. Jackson added six points of her own, going 1-2 at the free throw line and adding two rebounds.

The Lady Bears hit the road to face AAC opponent, St. Andrews University on Wednesday, Dec. 8 with a tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
