Box Score CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 13, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Union College, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena Saturday, where the Lady Bears showed their grit with a 68-65 victory over the Bulldogs. TMU improved to a 4-1, 2-1 AAC, while the Bulldogs record falls to 2-2, 1-2 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs were the first to strike. The Lady Bears were quick to retaliate with a three pointer from Re'Tavia Floyd. Another three pointer from Floyd brought TMU within margins, but the Bulldogs were resilient. A layup from Quan Holton left the Lady Bears trailing 14-18 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, TMU was out of the gates with a three pointer from Natalie Nixon and a layup from Holton. A three pointer from Jessica Jackson tied the score, but a shot in the paint from Floyd secured a 24-22 lead. The Bulldogs fought hard and left the Lady Bears down 29-30 going into the third quarter.
In the third quarter, back-to-back three pointers from Floyd gave TMU the lead. A foul on Camilla Callihan led to two free throws to send the Lady Bears up 48-46 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, both teams were back and forth, but two fouls on Callihan led to four successful free throws, followed by a free throw from Floyd. A three pointer from Floyd and a jumper from Nixon ultimately sealed the deal, leading the Lady Bears to a 68-65 victory.
LEADERS
Floyd had a stunning evening with 33 points, going 7-10 at the free throw line and 6-13 behind the three point line. Holton followed with 14 points and collected five rebounds of her own. Callihan had 13 points, six rebounds and went 7-10 at the free throw line. Nixon had five points, four rebounds and had a shot from behind the three point line. Jackson had three points, two rebounds and one steal.
