CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 28, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team is set to begin their 2020-21 season on Friday, Oct. 30, at Toccoa Falls College. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. TMU's home opener is set for Thursday, Nov. 5, against Keiser University.
"We are happy to have everybody back this year," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "We are hoping that everybody can stay healthy in the midst of this global pandemic. We are also hoping to get a full season under our belts with this group of returners. I have high expectations for this group."
Senior Sierra Kendall and junior Re'Tavia Floyd, both All-Appalachian Athletic Conference second team members, are amongst the key group of returners. The senior forward averaged 13.33 points and 9.13 rebounds a game. Kendall also ranked third in the AAC in total rebounds (294), fourth in total rebounds per game (9.13), fourth in offensive rebounds per game (2.8) and fourth in defensive rebounds per game (6.33). Furthermore, Kendall led the entire AAC in total blocks (59) and blocks per game (1.97), and recorded a total of 11 double-doubles.
Floyd, TMU's leading scorer last season, averaged 15.77 points and 2.37 steals a game. The junior guard ranked number four in the AAC for scoring (473 points total) and sixth in scoring per game (15.77 points). From the 3-point arc, Floyd had a total of 70 3-pointers made, which ranked fourth in the AAC, and averaged 2.33 a game (eighth in the AAC). On the defensive end, Floyd ranked fourth in total steals (71) and steals per game (2.37).
The Lady Bears will also feature four incomers. In the 2020-21 AAC preseason poll, TMU was predicted ninth of 14. TMU finished last season with an overall record of 14-16, which is just one win shy of tying the program record for most wins in a season.
