VALDOSTA, Ga. (Sept. 24, 2019) – Senior Dawson Day led the Truett McConnell University men's golf team to a seventh place finish, of 13 teams, at the Thomas University Fall Invitational in Valdosta, Georgia at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
No. 2 Coastal Georgia won the tournament while Appalachian Athletic Conference foe No. 14 Point University placed runner-up.
"We have yet to master South Georgia Bermuda grass greens that have a lot of grain," Head Coach Steve Patton said. "We are playing in several tournaments this fall with these greens to try and get better with them. Dawson played incredible golf this week and his highest round so far this fall is even-par. Michael Osborne had a great tournament as well with his even-par round.
We are back at it again next week at the home of the PGA Tour Valspar Championship in Tampa."
Day finished third individually, of 76 golfers, after carding a 72 through round one and finished two under on day two (70). Freshman Osborne followed tied in 21st with a 77 and 72. Sophomore Jhett Lewis tied for 46th (76, 79), senior Matt Smith tied for 61st (77, 82) and senior Luke Peavy tied for 61st (80, 79).
The Bears are set to hit the road for the USCB Innisbrook Invitational on Monday, Sept. 30 – Tuesday, Oct. 1.
