Cleveland, Ga. | In a weekend series that was a originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the Truett McConnell Baseball team hosted Reinhardt University on Friday and Sunday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup.
Game 1 - Friday, April 6th
The Bears offense was able to strike first in the bottom of the 1st inning, as
Austin Bishop was sent home off
Patrick Overstreet's single to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.
Reinhardt would respond to the Bear's early start by scoring five runs in the next four innings.
In the bottom of the 6th, Overstreet doubled deep down the right field line to lead the inning off. Overstreet advanced to third on a sacrifice fly from
Jackson Meadors. With one out and a runner on third,
Evan Bensch hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop, sending Overstreet home. The Bears ended the 6th inning down 5-2.
Reinhardt responded again to the Bears in the top of the 7th, driving in four runs to extend their lead to 9-2.
The Bears would score in the bottom of the 7th, as
Andrew Fogarty scored on
Austin Bishop's single to left.
Reinhardt tacked on one more run in the top of the 9th to take Game 1 from the Bears by a score of 10-3.
Game 2 - Friday, April 6th
Beginning Game 2, the Bears offense looked to get going early. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Overstreet ignited the Bears offense with a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Reinhardt's offense stayed quiet in the 2nd inning, but they would come to life in the 3rd inning scoring four runs.
A consistent
Davis Dasher started the inning for the Bears in the bottom of the 3rd. He would lead off the inning with a single.
Austin Bishop advanced Dasher to second base on a well-executed bunt. Dasher would later come around to score to narrow Reinhardt's lead to 4-3.
In the top of the 4th, Reinhardt again responded, adding two runs to their lead.
After being walked to begin the bottom of the 4th, Fogarty would steal second base, which allowed Dasher to send Fogarty home off a single up the middle.
Reinhardt did not slow down as they added another run in the top of the 5th.
The bottom of the 5th inning was productive for the Bears, down 7-4 at this point. Overstreet would be walked with one out, bringing Meadors up next to bat. Meadors would crush a double down the right field line, sending Overstreet home from first. Harrell replaced Meadors as a pinch runner after his RBI double. Fogarty delivered a high chopper over the third baseman's head, allowing Harrell to come around to score and closed Reinhardt's lead to 7-6.
Neither team would be able to break through, as Reinhardt took Game 2, 7-6.
Game 3 - Sunday, April 8th
After a day break in the weekend series, the Bears looked to get back on track on Sunday.
Reinhardt took an early 1-0 lead in the top of 1st.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Fogarty and Rowland found their way on base with a pair of singles. Later on in the lineup,
Austin Thomas hit a single up the middle to send Fogarty home as the Bears tied the game up at 1-1.
The Bears offense continued its success in the bottom of the 3rd.
Josh Johnston led the inning off with a double to right field. Overstreet stepped up to bat next, and he sent Johnston home off a single to left field.
Over the next three innings, Reinhardt tacked on four unanswered runs to take a 5-2 lead over the Bears.
The Bears responded in the bottom of the 8th. Many strategical decisions were made by Head Coach
Mike Croley to fuel the Bear success down the stretch.
Jackson Meadors drew a walk to begin the inning.
Cole Parker would pinch run for Meadors. Roland followed Meadors with a single of his own to put runners on first and second base for the Bears. Head Coach

Shane Smith as a pinch hitter for Fogarty. Smith laid down what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt, but Reinhardt's third baseman made a wide throw to first base, allowing Parker to score from second base. Reinhardt would had two outs on the Bears, which sent the hot bat of
Davis Dasher to the plate. He was walked, and
Austin Bishop stepped into the batter's box next. With the base loaded and two outs, Bishop came up big for the Bears with a single up the middle to drive in two runs and tie the game at 5-5.
Pitcher Nick Hammond shut Reinhardt out in both the 8th and 9th inning, which gave the Bears a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 9th.
Overstreet was patient leading off for the Bears and was walked. Meaders supplied a single to center field, sending Rowland to bat. Rowland would hit a check-swing single over the third baseman's head to load the bases.
Andrew Fogarty's number was called next in the lineup with an opportunity for his second walk-off of the year. With two strikes on him, Fogarty hit a single to send Overstreet home for the win. The Bears would take Game 3 by a final score of 6-5.
Following the weekend series with Reinhardt, the Bears are currently 19-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play. The Bears will host Emmanuel College on Tuesday, April 10th, at 3 PM.
