CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell baseball team found themselves in a shootout from the first inning and had a chance to win the game before Bryan pulled out the sweep in a 13-11 win Saturday afternoon.
After a four-run first inning for Bryan, the Bears answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a RBI single from
Josh Johnston to cut the Lion lead to 4-3.
TMU took the lead in the bottom of the second with another three-run inning that was capped off by an
Andrew Fogarty single that scored two runs and gave the Bears a 6-4 lead.
The Lions scored eight runs in a row to take a 12-6 lead going to the seventh when the Bears put up five runs after the seventh inning stretch.
Austin Thomas brought home the first two runs of the inning on a RBI single, and
Austin Bishop did the same thing three batters later.
The Bears had a great chance in the bottom of the eighth when they loaded the bases with no outs, but the Lions brought in closer Chad Burrows to lock down the offense and escape Cleveland with the win.
TMU will next travel to Toccoa Falls on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
