CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell volleyball team fell in an early 1-0 hole Friday night but bounced back, winning the final three sets on its way to a 3-1 win over Brewton-Parker in the Bear Cave on Middle School Night.
The Barons won the first set, 25-16, but the Bears roared back behind 14 kills to just three errors in the second set to win 25-10 and tie the match at one set each.
The Bears jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the third set before Alex Brake earned three points while serving to extend the lead to 18-9. TMU would coast to a 25-15 win in the third set.
In the match's final set, Truett McConnell shot out to a 17-9 lead before the Barons came storming back behind Kristen Fluery's serving. Flurry earned seven points to cut the Bears lead to one, 17-16.
The Barons would keep the run going, earning three set points, but the Bears fought back to tie the set at 24 each. TMU would fight off two more set points and win the match on a Hannah Simpson ace.
Truett McConnell finished the contest with 48 kills to just 27 errors. The Bears were led in kills by Katie Russell and Zykeria Allen with 11 each. Morgan Smith and Tiffany Bulkhead led BPC with seven kills apiece.
The Bears will jump into AAC play with a Tuesday night road trip to Waleska, Georgia, to take on the Eagles of Reinhardt University. Play is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
