Bears Win Season Opener 78-67

Cleveland, GA - On Saturday, November 1st, the Truett-McConnell men's basketball team had their first home game of the 2014-2015 season. The Bears faced the Yellow Jackets of Allen University in a non-conference game, walking away with the first victory of the season with a score of 78-67.

In the game against the Yellow Jackets, the Bears remained behind for the majority of the first half. It was only until halfway through the second half that the Bears offense really began to pressure the oppositions defense.

Men's basketball Head Coach Jon Yeh said, "We gained control in the last 5 minutes of the first half and never relinquished it. Down the stretch, we really executed well and extended the lead against a good team."

J'Quayveon Williams was a key player for the Bears on both offense and defense. Williams led the team in points, posting 21 on the day. He also led the team in rebounds, racking up 10 on both sides of the court. Williams also went 7 for 8 in free throws, as well as contributing two assists in the Bears victory.

"It was a really great team effort with quality contributions all around. Brandon Cerezola sparked us in the first half with his perimeter shooting, and big Quay carried us in the second half. We have a lot to work on, but it's certainly nice to get that first win," said Coach Yeh.

The Bears are now 1-0 on the season, and 0-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The men will face their next opponent this Thursday, November 6th, as they travel to nearby Toccoa Falls College. Tip-off for the men is set for 8:00 PM.
