Toccoa, GA - This past Thursday evening, the Truett-McConnell men's basketball team travelled to Toccoa Falls College to face the Screaming Eagles in a non-conference game. The Bears would experience their first lost of the 2014-2015 season, falling to the Screaming Eagles 65-69.
Despite an aggressive offense in the first half, the Bears struggled to turn the ball over in the second half. Trailing the Screaming Eagles for most of the game, the Bears made a comeback as the game neared its close, coming to within three points with under a minute to go. However, turnovers made early in the second half proved too costly to give the Bears a win.
Among the top performers of the game were sophomore J'Quayveon Williams and freshman Daniel Beausejour. Both players had a huge night, each of them posting a double-double against the Screaming Eagles. Williams scored 14 points and had 15 rebounds, while Beausejour scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds.
Defensively, the Bears shut down one of the Screaming Eagles top offensive weapons, Josh Barrett. Keying in on Barrett, the Bears limited him to 5-14 from the field, including 0-7 from 3-point range. This would not be enough to hold off the Screaming Eagles, as the Bears offense was unable to get the basketball into the middle of their zone.
The Bears are now 1-1 on the season, and 0-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. They will play their next contest at 4:00 PM this Saturday, November 8th, as they travel to Madisonville, TN to face Hiwassee College.
