2025 HOF Inductee: Mickey Cobb

CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 28, 2025) – Mickey Cobb, graduate of the Truett McConnell Junior College Class of 1962, is a member the TMU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 and will be formally inducted on Friday, February 21, during the Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony.

In his time at Truett McConnell, Cobb served as a student athletic trainer/manager for the men's basketball team. After graduating from TMC, Cobb went on to further his education earning a bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern (1964), and a master's degree from Indiana University (1966), where he served on the athletic training staff for both institutions.

After graduation, Cobb served as head trainer at DePauw University in 1966-67 after which he returned to Statesboro, Georgia for a full-time appointment as head trainer for his Alma Mater. From 1971-77, Cobb joined the athletic training staff for the Charleston West Virginia Pirates, Kansas City Royals Academy, and the Royals affiliate team in Omaha, Nebraska (AAA).

From 1977-1990, Cobb was appointed as head trainer for the Kansas City Royals Major League baseball team. In his time with the Royals, Cobb made five Divisional Playoffs and two World Series appearances. Cobb was also selected as the trainer for the American league All-Stars in 1982 and 1990. During his time working in the MLB, Cobb was also honored with a position as the team trainer for Sports Illustrated's Dream Team in the mid 1980s.

Following his service with the Royals, Cobb was inducted into the Georgia Southern University's Hall of Fame class of 1990 and the Waycross-Ware County Sports Hall of Fame class of 2005. Cobb has written over 15 magazine articles and three books, including, Baseball Injuries & Training Tips (1974)A Step and a Half (2012), and Blue Whistler (2018). In the early 1980s he appeared on Good Morning America with David Hartman to discuss the hazards of smokeless tobacco. Since Cobb's retirement in 1990, he has conducted some athletic training workshops in Europe and Asia and continues to be active in community work for charity as a member of the Kansas City Royals Alumni.

The TMU Hall of Fame class of 2025 will be formally inducted on Friday, February 21, inside the Harris Athletic Complex during the TMU Friends and Family Weekend.
