CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 27, 2021) –
Enocka Franky,
Ty Briscoe and
EJ Smith, of the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team, collected Appalachian Athletic Conference postseason accolades. Franky was named to the All-Conference first team and All-Defensive Team, while Briscoe and Smith earned spots on the All-Freshmen team. Franky was a 2019-20 All-AAC second team member.
Through 28 games, Franky, who led the team in points, rebounds and blocks, averaged 16.29 points and nine rebounds a game. Franky compiled a total of 456 points, 252 rebounds and 24 blocks. Franky ranks first in the AAC and seventh nationally for total rebounds (252), third in the AAC in total rebounds per game (9.0), second in the AAC in offensive rebounds per game (3.29), sixth in the AAC in defensive rebounds per game (5.71) and sixth in the AAC for total blocks (24). In addition, Franky ties for first in the AAC for total number of double-doubles (12).
"I am really happy for Enocka," Head Coach
Jon Yeh said. "He has made exceptional strides in his fundamentals and has become one of, if not the best, pure post players in our league. He also really upped his defensive efforts. Not only can he protect the rim, but he really made a gigantic leap in his transition and perimeter defense."
One of Franky's most notable performances took place in February when he recorded a season high of 17 rebounds against Reinhardt University. The junior forward also scored a season high of 32 points against Tennessee Wesleyan in January. Franky was also named AAC player of the week for the week ending Monday, Feb. 15.
Briscoe, who led the Bears in assists, finished the year ranked third in the AAC for total assists (104) and fourth in assists per game (4.0).
"Ty was thrust into a really difficult role as a freshman with all of our injury disruptions, and he shined all year long," Yeh said. "He hit big shots, game winning shots and played through some painful injuries while being asked to lead our team as a scorer and facilitator as a first-year guy."
The freshman guard averaged 16.23 points a game and ranks sixth in the AAC for total scoring (422). In addition, Briscoe finished with a 79.7% free throw percentage, which was the sixth best in the AAC. Briscoe's career high of 34 points against Bryan College in January is amongst the freshman standout's notable performances.
"Both Enocka and Ty are also excellent in the classroom," Yeh said. "Enocka will be an All-Conference academic selection and Ty is on his way to becoming one next year as a sophomore."
Due to a discrepancy in the original voting, Smith was a late addition to the AAC All-Freshmen team. Smith, who led the Bears in steals per game (1.07), averaged 6.44 points and 1.11 assists a game. The freshman guard also had the team's highest 3-point percentage (32.7%). Smith recorded a season high of 16 points against Kentucky Christian in January.
"EJ displayed a tireless work ethic and selfless attitude from day one," Yeh said. "His shoot ability earned him playing time, but then this overall game flourished as he gained confidence. He was both a capable defender (second on the team in total steals) and a solid decision maker (1.6 to 1 assist-to-turnover ratio)."
