CLEVELAND, Ga. (Jan. 12, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University wrestling team bested Brewton-Parker College Tuesday inside the TMU Volleyball/Wrestling Arena for the first time in TMU history with a final team score of 29-21.
Most notable, four Bears were individually credited a pin on the day, featuring one technical fall. Sophomore Geowel Silvestre dominated at 141, earning a takedown in the final three seconds of the third period to secure a technical fall with a score of 17-2. At 149, junior Leonel Silvestre came out hot in the first period collecting the first pin of the day with 32 seconds left on the clock. Fellow junior Mitchell Thompson showed his grit at 165 by leading in score the entire match and clinching the win with a pin in the third period with three seconds remaining. After being out for injury, sophomore Ethan Powell made his first appearance back on the mat, where he bested his opponent with a pin at the two-minute mark in the first period.
