HUNTINGDON, Ala. (January 3, 2026) — On Saturday, the (RV) Truett McConnell University wrestling team posted a strong 3–1 showing at the Hawk Duals, hosted by Huntingdon College, competing in four dual match-ups throughout the day against a challenging field.
TMU opened competition against No. 22 Lindsey Wilson College, falling 32–12 in a tightly contested dual. The Bears earned key victories behind
Tyler Garrett, who secured an 8–6 decision at 149, and Nate Naplitano, who delivered a second-period fall (3:48) at 165.
Phillip Terrell closed the dual with an 8–1 decision in the heavyweight bout. Several matches came down to narrow margins, including overtime losses at 125 and 157.
The Bears responded in the second dual with a 33–18 victory over host Huntingdon. TMU jumped out to an early lead with forfeits at 125 and 133, before
Caleb Benton added a 9–3 decision at 141. Garrett recorded a first-period fall (2:52) at 149, while Naplitano and
Spencer Fields each contributed major decisions at 165 and 197, respectively. Terrell sealed the win with a 14–2 major decision at heavyweight.
Momentum continued in TMU's favor as the Bears defeated Schreiner University, 37–14.
Tyler Ramos set the tone with a fall at 125, followed by wins from
Stanley Lal and
Chase Bond. Naplitano, Chi Anderson, Fields, and Terrell each recorded falls, including Terrell's quick pin in just 48 seconds to cap the dual.
TMU closed the day in dominant fashion with a 52–0 shutout victory over McMurry University. Ramos and
Tyler Crow each earned technical falls at 125 and 174, while Garrett, Fields, and Terrell posted falls across the lineup. The Bears also benefited from multiple forfeits, securing bonus points in seven of the ten contested bouts to complete the sweep.
Up next, the Bears will return home on Thursday, January 8 as TMU hosts Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Brewton-Parker Christian University for TMUs final home match-up of the season. Match time set to begin at 5:00 p.m. inside the Harris Athletic Complex.
