CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 22, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University wrestling team picked up their first Appalachian Athletic Conference dual win of the season against West Virginia University- Institute of Technology on Friday night inside the TMU Bear Cave (31-24).

Brandon Navixay started the Bears out on the right foot with a big win at 125 (16-1). At 133,
Jacob Taylor won in an extra fourth period (7-5) and
Will Davidson recorded the Bears' third straight win at 141 (15-0). Sophomore
Ian James, however, sparked a strong finish by TMU. At 165, James pinned his WVU opponent in the first period but it was only up from there for the Bears. Freshman
Nolan Cook followed up with a pin of his own at 184 but it ultimately came down to the final match of the evening.

After WVU responded with a pin of their own, the Bears led by a single point heading into the heavyweight match (25-24).
Ethan Powell rose to the occasion for TMU with the Bears' third pin of the night to seal the team's first AAC dual win of the season (31-24).
