CLEVELAND | After winning a nail-biting first set, the Truett McConnell Bears fell to St. Andrews on Dig Pink Night in the Bear Cave, 24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-15. The Bears are now 10-8 and 4-8 in AAC play.
Trailing 22-18 in the first set, the Bears went on a run behind
Hannah Simpson, who had back-to-back kills during a run that got TMU in a 22-22 tie. The Bears went on to win four of the final six points to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
TMU fell in an early 8-4 hole in the second set, but again went on a 4-0 run with the help of
Harris Anne Walker, who jumpstarted the run with a kill and a block. St. Andrews responded with a 7-2 run and never looked back on its way to tie the match at 1-1.
The third and fourth sets were highlighted by big runs by the Knights. A 7-0 run in the third and a 5-0 run in the fourth sealed the match for the Knights.
Zykeria Allen had another double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Simpson finished with a team-high 12 kills, while
Georgia Martin finished with a team-high 25 digs.
The Bears will hit the road on Friday to start a three-game road swing against North Greenville. First serve against the NCAA Division II opponent is slated for 7 p.m. in Tigerville.
