TIGERVILLE, S.C. | The Truett McConnell volleyball team fell in a tightly contested match against NCAA Division II opponent North Greenville Friday night. The Bears are now 1-1 against NCAA teams this year and 10-9 overall.
The Bears led 9-4 to start the match as
Zykeria Allen had two kills and the Bears had four blocks in the opening points. A 7-1 run for the Crusaders got North Greenville just enough of a lead in the set, however, to squeeze out a 25-21 win in set one.
TMU fell behind 17-9 in the second set and faced five set points trailing 24-19 before scoring six straight points to get a set point of its own at 25-24, but North Greenville fended off that and one more set point to win 28-26 in the second set.
The Bears lone set won came in the third as they jumped out to a 13-10 lead. After falling behind, 15-14, the Bears stormed ahead, scoring 11 of the final 16 points of the set to win, 25-20, in the third.
Truett McConnell had a chance to force a fifth set, leading 24-22 in the fourth set, but the Crusaders scored five of the final six points of the set to win the match in a 26-24 fourth set.
Keri King got her 1,000th dig in the match, recording 13 digs to bring her career total to 1,002 digs. Allen finished with her fourth double-double in five games with 17 kills and 14 digs.
Natalie Hogle finished with a career-high 15 kills in the match, while
Kendall Hardy recorded 14 kills for the Bears.
TMU will jump back into AAC play on Tuesday with a match at Bryan College, with first serve set for 6:30 p.m.
