Cleveland, GA - The Truett-McConnell women's volleyball team concluded regular-season play this past Tuesday, November 4th, when they hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Bryan College. Despite an offensive rally in the third set, the Lady Bears lost the match 0-3.
Usually victorious in the home arena, the Lady Bears played timid against the Lions of Bryan College. Unaggressive defense by the Bears provided fuel for the Lions offense, allowing them to win the first set 25-14. The second game was not much different for the Bears, who dropped the set 16-25.
The third set appeared to be a game-changer for the Lady Bears, as they went point-for-point with Bryan the entire game. Looking for victory, the Lady Bears had the momentum at 22-24, trailing Bryan by only two points. However, a missed serve from the Lady Bears would end the match.
Freshman Morgan Harris led the offense for the Lady Bears, hitting .500 on the night with seven kills, one error, and 12 attempts. This marks the highest hitting percentage of her collegiate career. Harris also posted four solo blocks against the Lions, a career-high for the young Middle Blocker.
Freshman Tarryn Long was also a contributor to the team's offensive efforts, posting eight kills and one service ace against the Lions.
Defensively, the Lady Bears were once again led by freshman Keri King, racking up 14 digs against the Lions. Freshmen Hannah Simpson contributed eight digs to the team's defensive efforts.
The Bears finish the regular-season 9-22 overall, and 4-8 in the AAC.
For the first time in school history, the women's volleyball team will be playing in the AAC tournament. The Lady Bears are scheduled to play in the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday, November 12th against Point University. First serve is set for 10:00 AM in Kingsport, TN.
