Lady Bears Volleyball Snags 10th Win, Makes School History

Box Score Kingsport, TN - The Truett-McConnell women's volleyball team made history this morning as they won their first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament match. Their school-record victory occured when the Lady Bears defeated the Skyhawks of Point University 3-2. This win also signifies the team's 10th victory on the 2014 season, doubling the win record from the Lady Bears 2013 season.

The Bears were led offensively by freshman Hannah Simpson, who had a double-double against the Skyhawks with 13 kills and 10 digs. Not far behind was Tarryn Long, another freshman Outside Hitter, who tallied 12 kills and two aces. Brittany Foster posted an astounding .444 hitting percentage against the Skyhawks, scoring 9 kills on 18 attempts with only one error. 

Defensively, freshmen defensive-duo Keri King and Hayley Haskell helped keep the ball alive, both of them recording 15 digs. Sophomore Brianna Keierleber led the team in assists, racking up a total of 27 for the match. These 27 assists are a personal best for the young setter, who also scored two aces for the Lady Bears. 

The Lady Bears will begin pool-play tomorrow morning. They face Reinhardt University at 11:30 AM, followed by Milligan College at 2:00 PM. The outcome of both of these games will determine which two teams will move on to the next round of the AAC Tournament.
