Strong First Half Lifts Lady Bears Over Montreat in AAC Opener.

TMU collected its second shutout of the season to start conference play.

MONTREAT, N.C. – Three early goals for Truett McConnell women's soccer (2-1-1, 1-0 AAC) resulted a win in its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener vs. Montreat (0-2, 0-1 AAC) 4-0 Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lady Bears controlled to stat line throughout the match, owning the shots with 14 compared to the Cavaliers two. The away team also held the home squad to no shots on goal. Truett attempted seven corner kicks to Montreat's two opportunities. The latter received the only yellow card of the game in the 64th minute.
 
At the 7:43 mark, Eva Mordick got onto the board for the first time in 2026, an unassisted goal which resulted in a 1-0 lead for TMU. Isabella Hodson immediately responded with her second goal of the season just 46 seconds later, putting the away team up 2-0.
 
After a foul on Montreat, the Lady Bears took advantage with a third goal, this time from senior transfer Salome Deneubourg with a double assist by Hodson and Erin Ward.
 
Truett continued to mount pressure in the next 20 minutes with two shots to Montreat's zero with Agathe Braud having a shot on goal. In the 28th minute. Lena Poulain put the ball in the back of the net to make it 4-0. The score was her first of the 2026 season as Joanna Funes and Braud made assists. A wide right shot by Isabelle Allen was the only action for the rest of the half as the Lady Bears carried the four-goal lead into the break.
 
TMU had three corner kick opportunities with the first ten minutes of the second half, but no shots were made. The Cavaliers had its first shot of the game in the 54th minute, sailing wide of the net. Hodson produced her third shot of the game in the 55th minute, which was saved by Anna Weissenfluh, one of her five saves.
 
With a yellow card on Sawyer Kenney, the Lady Bears were awarded a penalty kick, a save for the keeper. They put together two shot attempts from 70:00 to 80:00, both of which were not on target. The away squad held the home team to just one more shot the rest of the way, a blocked attempted to keep the 4-0 shutout.
 
TMU will continue conference play at home with a game vs. Columbia College scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. at the TMU Soccer Complex.
