Men’s Soccer Preview: Milligan

Truett McConnell tasked with defending six-game win streak and undefeated home record.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Men's soccer prepares for another home test at the TMU Soccer Complex as the Truett McConnell University Bears (6-1-2 overall, 5-0-0 AAC) face the Milligan University Buffaloes (6-1-2 overall, 3-1-1 AAC) on Saturday.

Milligan University has proven to be a formidable opponent through both results and national recognition. In August, they recorded a strong draw against the then #2 West Virginia Tech Golden Bears, and have yet to lose a game at home this season. Furthermore, the Buffaloes were mentioned in the first three NAIA Top 25 polls as receiving votes before this week's installment of rankings did not feature a receiving votes category.

The Bears and Buffaloes have four common opponents in Brewton-Parker Christian, Tennessee Wesleyan, Bryan, and Columbia. Truett McConnell recorded a 3-0-1 record against these teams with a +15 goal differential, while Milligan went 2-1-1 with a differential of +1.

Historically, Milligan has had a slight advantage in the matchup with a 6-5-4 record. The last three meetings have seen a perfect split with each team winning once as well as one draw.

Marco Lattanzi serves as the focal point of the Buffaloes offense with nine goals on the season, enough to earn him second place in the statistic in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. He also ranks third in the conference in points with 18. He earned AAC Offensive Player of the Week with five goals including a hat trick performance in week two of the season.

The only player in the AAC above Lattanzi in scoring is the Bears' own Jovica Lazarevic, who currently has 11 goals on the season. This mark also places him fifth in the NAIA among all players for the category. The Bears also feature the reigning AAC Offensive Player of the Week, Roman Reynolds. Reynolds has contributed four goals and six assists on the year.

Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. in Cleveland, Georgia.
