Softball sweeps Knights in final regular season doubleheader

LAURINBURG, N.C. (April 16, 2025) - On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University softball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader match-up, where the Lady Bears recorded back-to-back victories over the knights 8-0 and 10-1. TMU closes the regular season with an overall record of 29-13, 20-8 AAC. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY
GAME ONE WIN
TMU 8 - SAU 0
TMU scored their first runs in game one during the second inning with two runs, featuring a sacrifice fly by Emme Souter (2-0). A homerun by Cassie Boatright began the third as TMU looked to increase the gap (3-0). A sacrifice fly by Grace Folds followed by a double by Rebecca Graham and a single by Souter tallied three more runs (6-0). In the fourth, a double by Rachel Morgan pushed Kyndall Gipson over home plate to advance the score to 7-0. A final triple by Folds in the sixth, score the final run for the Lady Bears securing a game one shut-out victory, 8-0. 

LEADERS
Souter was featured contributing three RBIs in game one, while Boatright went 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run. Graham tallied two RBIs, while Morgan and Folds had one a piece. Pitcher Morgan was featured recording five strikeouts on the evening. 

GAME TWO WIN
TMU 10 - SAU 1
Game two action began in the first inning with an RBI single by Boatright (1-0). The game fell quiet until the fifth inning when the Lady Bears recorded two more runs with an RBI triple and a run by Isabelle Sullivan (3-0). A seven run sixth inning for TMU began with a solo homerun by Morgan followed by doubles from Ashley Fitts, Sullivan, and Gipson, and singles by Boatright and Morgan (10-0). SAU scored their lone run of the evening in the final inning of game two, unable to take away from a Lady Bears sweep (10-1). 

LEADERS
Boatright was featured recording three RBIs and one run, while Sullivan went 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs. Morgan tallied two RBIs, while Gipson and Fitts recorded one RBI a piece. 

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will head to Kingsport, Tennessee on Tuesday, April 29th for game one of the AAC Tournament. Match time and opponent to be announced.
