LAURINBURG, N.C. (February 8, 2025)- On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against St. Andrews University where the Lady Bears recorded a win against the Knights with a final score of 59-54. TMU rises to an overall record of 12-12, 9-9 AAC.Â
PLAY-BY-PLAY
TMU was first to score with made layups by Alissa Winters and Mahalah Stewart. Two three-points by Brinkley Kate Reed and Alexis Brewster kept the Lady Bears ahead as TMU worked to create a gap. SAU did not let up, taking over the board by one point at the end of the quarter, 13-12. SAU carried their momentum in the second quarter, with TMU trailing close with good free throws by Brewster and a layup by Reed. A late rally by the Knights left the Lady Bears behind by seven points as both teams enter halftime with a score of 33-26.Â
In the third quarter, SAU continued to increase the scoring margin. TMU did not give up as good free throws and layups by Brewster decreased the difference to five points. The Lady Bears gave it their all as a layup by Destinee Lovejoy made it a one possession game, 41-39. In the final quarter, both teams battled for the lead. The Lady Bears did not give up hope as two consecutive three-pointers by Kayleigh Kelley gave TMU the advantage. Final made free throws by Lovejoy, and Stewart finalized the game, proving the Lady Bears capable of taking home the win, 59-54.Â
LEADERS
Brewster led the way with a double-double, recording 23 points and 14 rebounds. Stewart followed with 10 points and three assists, while Lovejoy had seven points.Â

The Lady Bears will be back in action at home on Wednesday, February 15, as TMU hosts Milligan University for an AAC matchup inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena.Tip-off is set for 2:00pm
