Women’s Basketball suffers devastating loss to Brenau

CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 27, 2025) – On Monday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Brenau University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Lady Bears put up a fight but ultimately were unable to secure the win. Falling to a final score, 47-45. TMU falls to an overall record of 9-11, 6-8 AAC. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, BU found luck first with a good three point shot. TMU quickly responded with a good free throw by Destinee Lovejoy and a layup by Alissa Winters. A layup by Kayleigh Kelly paired with a three-pointer by Brinkley Kate Reed, kept the score close as TMU led by two, 11-9. The second quarter began with a good free throw by Alexis Brewster, followed by a made three-pointer by Reed. Both teams battle for the lead as good three-point shots across the board kept the game competitive. A late run by the Golden Tigers ultimately pushed BU ahead by two as both teams entered the half (24-22).

The Lady Bears began third quarter play with back-to-back layups by Mahalah Stewart and Brewster, taking over the lead. TMU once again remained ahead, working together to retain the lead for good, when a made three-pointer by BU tied up the game, 32-32. Both teams gave it their all in the fourth quarter as the Lady Bears trailed by two in the final seconds of regulation. A final jump-shot by Stewart attempted to send the match-up into overtime but was ultimately unable to connect, falling to a final score of 47-45.

LEADERS
Brewster led the way with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Kelley followed with 12 points, while Reed tallied nine points and three steals. Stewart was featured recording four assists respectfully. 

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will remain at home on Wednesday, January 29, as TMU hosts Kentucky Christian University for an AAC match-up inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. Match time set for 5:30 p.m.
