TMU drops AAC battle in fourth quarter

COLUMBIA, S.C. (January 23, 2025) - On Thursday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to compete in a Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against Columbia College, where the Lady Bears fell to a tough loss, 55-54. TMU falls to an overall record of 8-10, while CC rises to a record of 15-5.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Alexis Brewster put the first points on the board with two made free throws to start the quarter. Jump shots by Destinee Lovejoy and Brinkley Kate Reed, continued to put the Lady Bears ahead, closing out the first quarter leading 11-8. A good three point shot by Ava queen started the second quarter extending the Lady Bears lead. TMU continued to hold their own for the remainder of the half, increasing the gap by eight points (22-14).

In the third quarter, a layup followed by a good free throw by Kayleigh Kelley gave the Lady Bears early hope at securing the conference win. A good three pointer from Reed allowed TMU to retain the lead, 42-34, as the Lady Bears entered the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears fought hard to keep the lead with a good layup by Brewster. TMU continued to battle, eager to put the match-up away, when a late 19 point rally by CC disrupted the chance at a win, falling to the Koalas, 55-54.

LEADERS
Brewster led the way for the Lady Bears with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Reed followed with 11 points, while Kelley recorded 10 points and nine rebounds. 

UP NEXT 
The Lady Bears will travel to Bluefield University on Saturday, January 25 for an AAC matchup. Tip-off set for 2:00pm.
