LAURINBURG, N.C. (September 28, 2024) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled to face St. Andrews University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Bears fell in a tough loss against the Knights, 2-1. TMU falls to an overall record of 5-2-2, 3-2-1 AAC, while SAU rises to a record of 3-4-1, 1-3-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, TMU was first to attack with shots by
Jose Ventura,
Jovica Lazarevic,
Pablo Farrona and
Sonke Hartmann attempting to put the Bears up with an early lead. The home team responded making moves of their own, ultimately proving unsuccessful as both teams entered the half scoreless. The second half saw the Knights connect to the back of the net first, scoring two goals in the 73
rd and 75
th minute (2-0). Working from behind, the Bears managed to find success as a goal by
Marco Mandelka, put TMU on the board (2-1).  Eager to bridge the gap, final shots by Ventura,
Oscar Brennan and
Max Farris, attempted to tie the game but ultimately proved not enough, falling to a final score of 2-1.

Mandelka led the way for the Bears with one goal. Ventura and Lazarevic followed with two shots a piece.Â

TMU will be back in action on Wednesday, October 2 as the Bears travel to Waleska, Ga. to face AAC foe Reinhardt University. Kick-off set for 5:00 p.m.
