CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 21, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Bluefield University, where five grueling sets saw the Lady Bears find victory in the end (3-2).
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Set one saw the Lady Bears a force to reckoned with as they took multiple strong runs after kills from Katie Williams, Jordan Roberts and Faith Clarkson. A service ace by Belle Lamonica gave TMU a seven point lead, while a kill from a Williams and an attacking error from the Rams saw the Lady Bears up by 12. A final service ace from Williams and error from the visiting team sealed the deal in set one for TMU (25-11).
Set three and four proved in favor of the Rams as they rallied together multiple strong runs to steal the lead (20-25, 16-25). The Lady Bears did not go quiet as they powered through to steal set four after strong performances by Sameily Marquez and Elizabeth Franklin, capable of entering the final set with a gain in momentum (25-21). Bluefield hit the board first, but kills from Franklin, Clarkson and Williams kept the play even. A Williams service ace and Claudia Yates kill put TMU ahead, while two kills from Franklin and a Marquez kill saw the score 13-13. Franklin proved key to the Lady Bears finishing on top as she tallied back-to-back game determining blocks to result in a final score of 15-13.
LEADERS
Clarkson led the way with 13 kills, followed by Williams who had eight kills and Roberts, Marquez and Franklin who individually had seven kills. Franklin tallied three blocks on the day, while Emma Boland had 22 assists and 17 digs, Caroline Yeager who had 17 assists, Rachel Kessler who had 19 digs, Addie Cross who had 17 digs and Deomi Valmus who had 16 digs.
