Bears fall short against Union

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 21, 2024) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team hosted Union College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Bears suffered a heartbreaking loss, 3-1. TMU falls to a record of 5-1-2, 3-1-1, while UC rises to a record of 5-1-1, 4-0 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, UC was first to attack with three shots. TMU responded taking two of their own by Max Farris and Marco Mandelka, unable to connect to the back of the net. The Bulldogs found luck in the 17th minute scoring their first goal of the game, forcing TMU to work from behind. Eager to increase the gap, UC went on to score two more goals in the first half. The second half saw the Bulldogs once again first to move offensively, putting pressure on the Bears defense. TMU was not shaken, ultimately holding UC to zero goals. TMU continued to give it their all when finally, in the 76th minute, a penalty kick goal by Oscar Brennan put TMU on the board (3-1). TMU continued to fight, giving it their all to recover from the Bulldogs strong first half, but ultimately fell to a final score of 3-1.
 
LEADERS
Brennan led the way for the Bears with one goal and two shots. Farrona was seen taking four shots, while Farris had two shots. Nils Waltemode, Jovica Lazarevic, Jose Ventura and Mandelka were featured recording one shot a piece.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will be back in action on the road as they travel to Laurinburg, N.C. on Saturday, September 28 to face AAC opponent St. Andrews University. Kick off set for 2:30 p.m.
