CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 20, 2024) - On Friday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Kentucky Christian University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Lady Bears recorded a 3-0 sweep over the Knights. TMU rises to a record of 3-10, 1-3 AAC, while KCU falls to a record of 0-10, 0-3 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In set one, KCU was first to score with the Lady Bears quickly responding with a kill by Faith Clarkson and a service ace by Kaleigh McFarland. TMU continued to dominate the set, as a seven-point rally, featuring kills by Katie Williamson and two more service aces by McFarland, propelled the Lady Bears forward. A final kill by Elizabeth Franklin ultimately gave TMU the set one win, 25-13. In set two, the Lady Bears and Knights battled early for the lead, when a six point rally by KCU forced TMU to work from behind. The Lady Bears did not give up hope, working together to record a four-point rally, featuring a kill by Clarkson and a kill and solo block by Franklin. A final kill by Sameily Marquez and an error on the opposing team ultimately gave the Lady Bears set two, 26-24.
In the final set, TMU gained an early lead as a six point rally, featuring kills by Williams and Clarkson, paired with serving aces by Deomi Valmus, pushed the Lady Bears forward. A final kill by Marquez ultimately decided the match's fate as the Lady Bears stole the conference win 25-16.
LEADERS
Williams led the way for the Lady Bears with seven kills while Jordan Roberts followed with six kills and three solo blocks. Emma Boland was featured tallying 14 assists and 4 service aces, while McFarland had four service aces and Valmus had three service aces and eleven digs.
