Lady Bears fall behind after four set battle

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 17, 2024) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Montreat College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears fell to a heartbreaking loss, 3-1 (23-25, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17). TMU falls to a record of 2-10, 0-3 AAC, while MC rises to a record of 3-0, 3-0 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Set one began with the Cavaliers first on the board, with TMU quickly responding with a kill by Jordan Roberts. Both teams battled back and forth until two three-point rallies by the Lady Bears, featuring kills by Elizabeth Franklin, and Sameily Marquez, sent TMU ahead. A late three-point rally by MC ultimately bridged the gap, giving the Cavaliers the room to record the set win, 23-25. In set two, TMU found an early lead as a four point rally, featuring two kills by Katie Williamson, set the Lady Bears ahead. TMU continued to hold on strong, with kills by Faith Clarkson and a service ace by Addie Cross. The Lady Bears continued to give it their all, fighting for the set win, when two final three point rallies by MC pushed the victory out of reach, 24-26. 

In set three, the Lady Bears found a change in momentum, setting the pace early with kills by Claudia Yates and Jordan Roberts. TMU continued to work together, creating a gap on the board with a five-point rally, featuring kills by Williams, Marquez, and Yates. A final service error on the Cavaliers ultimately sealed the fate of set three, resulting in Lady Bears set win, 25-16. In set four, TMU gave it their all, working hard on defense to even the match score. A late four-point rally by TMU attempted to settle the set, but was ultimately not enough as the Lady Bears fell in set four 17-25.

LEADERS
Williams led the way for TMU recording 11 kills. Roberts followed closely behind with six kills and a solo block, while Franklin had five kills and two solo blocks. Caroline Yeager was featured recording 14 assists, while Cross had 16 digs.

The Lady Bears with be back in action at home on Friday, September 20 as they host Kentucky Christian University for an AAC match-up inside the Harris Athletic Complex. Match time set for 6:30 p.m.
