WALESKA, Ga. (September 12, 2024) - On Thursday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to compete against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Reinhardt University, where the Lady Bears put up a fight, ultimately falling to the Eagles, 3-1. TMU falls to a record of 2-8, 0-1 AAC, while RU rises to a record of 4-4, 1-0 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In set one, RU was first to score with a quick three point rally. The Lady Bears wasted no time responding as kills by Katie Williams and Kaleigh McFarland, put TMU on the board. Both teams battled for the lead eager to take the set one advantage, when a five point rally by the Eagles pushed RU ahead, 18-25. Set two saw the Lady Bears first to make their mark with a service ace by Emma Boland. The Eagles responded eager to takeover once more when a five point rally by TMU, featuring kills by Faith Clarkson and Sameily Marquez, and a service ace by Rachel Kessler, gave the Lady Bears space to retain the lead. Both teams battled in the final points of the set, with TMU ultimately proving victorious as a final kill by Jordan Roberts and an error on the Eagles capped off set two, 26-24.
Set three saw the Eagles back on the board first, with the Lady Bears quickly responding, featuring a kill by Williams. TMU continued to work hard on defense, hoping to even the score, when two final kills by RU gave the Eagles set three (16-25). The Lady Bears fought hard in set four, ultimately taking an early lead with kills by Clarkson and a block assist by Marquez and Elizabeth Franklin. TMU remained strong, aiming to take the win in set four, when a final three point rally by the home team ultimately decided the match's fate, 20-25.
LEADERS
Clarkson led the way for the Bears with 10 kills. Williams followed with six kills and a service ace. Roberts was featured recording five kills and one solo block, while Marquez tallied five kills and a block assist. Boland recorded 21 assists on the evening, while Deomi Valmus had 14 digs.
