TMU falls to No. 2 University of the Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (April 5, 2024) – On Friday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against the No. 2 University of the Cumberlands, where the Lady Bears fell to a tough loss against the Patriots, 24-2. TMU falls to an overall record of 2-10, 0-4 AAC, while UC rises to a record of 16-1, 4-1 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first quarter saw the Lady Bears first on the board with a goal by Shelby Nail. UC responded with ten goals of their own forcing the Lady Bears behind early in the game (10-1). In the second quarter, eager to increase the gap, UC added five more to their score, entering the half leading, 15-1.  TMU continued to work hard on defense holding the Patriots to four goals and scoring their final goal of the evening by Kaitlyn Morgenroth in the third quarter (19-2). In the final quarter, the Patriots once again held the Lady Bears to no goals, adding five more of their own, resulting in a final score of 24-2.
 
LEADERS
Nail led the way for the Lady Bears with one goal and five shots. Morgenroth followed with one goal and two shots, while Marlo McBrayer tallied three shots and Katie Smith had two shots. Goalie Sally Marcum recorded 17 ground balls and 12 saves on the evening.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday, April 10 as they host AAC opponent St. Andrews University inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Game time set for 4:00 p.m.
