PIKEVILLE, Ky. (April 14, 2024) – On Sunday, the Truett McConnell University Baseball team traveled to face the University of Pikeville in the final match-up of the Appalachian Athletic Conference series, where the Bears fell in a tough battle, 5-4. TMU falls to an overall record of 16-25, 8-18 AAC while UPIKE rises to a record of 26-14, 18-8 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Bears started the game off hot with a double to left field by
Tanner Griffith in the top of the first.  A clutch RBI single by
Caleb Adair ultimately proved capable of bringing Griffith home, giving TMU the lead (1-0). UPIKE quickly responded in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own, taking the lead from TMU (1-2). The Bears continued to work defensively, holding the opposing team to no hits in the second, when a single by
Jordan Kenty in the third pushed Matt Redmond over the plate, tying the game (2-2). Both teams battled back and forth with UPIKE scoring another run in the third (2-3). The Bears found their third run of the game in the top of the sixth, as a passed ball game Kenty room to come home to tie the game once more (3-3). TMU score their final run of the day in the top of the eighth, attempting to take home the win, but it was ultimately not enough falling to a final score of, 5-4.

LEADERS
Adair led the way for the Bears going 3-5 with one RBI. Kenty followed going 3-4 with one RBI and one steal, while
Jake Edwards had one RBI and one steal. Pitcher
Caleb Johnson was featured recording six strikeouts on the day.Â
