Bears secure AAC split, Crew records shutout win

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (April 13, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to face University of Pikeville in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, where the Bears fell in game one to a score of 5-10 and bounced back in game two to secure a 2-0 win.

GAME ONE | 5-10 Loss

In game one, the Bears had work hard after PIKe secured a hefty lead at the start, but smart base running by Caleb Ramsey put TMU on the board. The eighth inning saw Ramsey with an RBI walk and Caleb Adair with a final effort RBI double, ultimately not enough as the Bears fell to a final score of 5-10.

LEADERS

Ramsey led the way going 2 for 3 with two runs, one RBI and one walk. Adair followed going 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs, while Austin Gurley pitched through six innings with eight strikeouts.

With runners on, a Tanner Griffith sacrifice fly helped the Bears hit the board first, followed by a Ramsey RBI to put TMU up 2-0. Pitcher Samuel Crew had a sharp performance on the mound, shutting down the home teams offense with 11 strikeouts on the day and zero runs allowed. The Bears were capable of holding off the home teams offense and captured the win with a final score of 2-0.
