COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 8, 2024) – On Friday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference series double header, where the Bears showed out in dominating fashion, taking down the Rams 15-5 in game one and 12-2 in game two. TMU rises to an overall record of 11-12, 4-7 AAC, while CIU falls to a record of 6-17, 3-9 AAC.

GAME 1 | TMU 15 – CIU 5
PLAY-BY-PLAY
CIU was first on the board scoring four runs in the first two innings (4-0). TMU responded in the fourth with a homerun by
Brodie Genter, creating and energy shift for the Bears. TMU continued to increase their score as four more runs by
Caleb Williams,
Caleb Ramsey,
Ethan Roberts and
Caleb Gentry propelled the Bears ahead (5-4). The Bears continued to work, as three consecutive singles by Gentry, Ramsey and Genter brought three runs home (8-4). In the seventh inning, the Bears continued to prove to be a tough competitor, showing no mercy towards the Rams as they added five more to their score (13-4). TMU scored their final runs of game one in the top of the ninth as sacrifice hitting by
Mikal Mascarello and
Jake Edwards brought two runs to the plate, securing the win with a final score of (15-5).

Genter led the way going 3-5 at the plate, recording three RBIS, two runs and one walk. Roberts followed going 2-4, with two RBIs, two runs and one walk. Ramsey was featured recording two RBIs and two runs, while Mascarello and
Jordan Kenty recorded two RBIs apiece. Gentry was featured contributing three runs while Williams contributed two runs. Pitcher
Hank Simonds was featured recording six strikeouts.

TMU was first to score in game two with a single by
Tanner Griffith and a double by Williams bringing one run home apiece (2-0). The Bears had a big second inning, adding seven runs to the board, featuring doubles by Roberts and Mascarello, paired with singles by Griffith, Williams and
Dylan Sargent (9-0). Sharp defense by the Bears kept the Rams at bay allowing only two runs for the opposing team as the Bears scored three final runs to secure a dominating win with a score of 12-2.
