Baseball falls to CIU in game one of series

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 7, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor Columbia International University, where a late rally by the Bears proved not enough as the Rams secured the victory in game one with a score of 10-6. TMU is now sitting at a record of 9-12, 2-7 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Bears hit the board first in the top of the first after an RBI by Caleb Ramsey scored Tanner Griffith. CIU wasted no time as they responded with seven runs of their own in the second inning, followed by two more runs in the third inning (1-9). TMU continued to work hard to bridge the gap, featuring a Mikal Mascarello double to deep center to score Ethan Roberts. Jacob Karvelas added to the score with an RBI of his own, followed by Caleb Gentry and Roberts who individually recorded RBI singles (5-9). The Rams added a final run in the bottom of the sixth, while last minute effort from Gentry proved not enough as the Bears fell to a final score of 6-10.

LEADERS

Roberts led the way at the plate going 3 for 5 with one run and one RBI. Gentry showed out going 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Griffith went 1 for 3 with one run and two walks. Pitcher Caleb Johnson had a strong outing after pitching through seven innings and recording 12 strikeouts on the day.
