CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 23, 2024) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union College, where the Bears fell in game one with a score of 7-10, while clinching the win in game two in walk-off fashion.
GAME ONE | 7-10
Union struck first in the second inning and third inning, forcing the Bears to work hard from behind with a score of 0-6. The bottom of the third saw a series of walks by TMU score the home teams first run of the game, followed by a Caleb Williams home run in the fifth inning, Ethan Roberts RBI single in the seventh and Tanner Griffith RBI single to make the score 4-8. Jacob Karvelas singled to center field in the bottom of the eighth, while Caleb Gentry singled to right field to score Matt Redmond from third (6-8). A final effort RBI from Caleb Adair proved TMU's last move as they fell to a score of 7-10.
LEADERS
Griffith led the way at the plate after going 3 for 6 with one RBI, followed by Karvelas who went 3 for 5 at the plate with one RBI. Caleb Ramsey was seen going 2 for 5, while Adair went 2 for 2 with one run, Mikal Mascarello went 2 for 4 with one run and two walks, and Gentry went 2 for 4 with one run, one RBI and one walk.
GAME TWO | Williams Walk-off
Union was first to move once again with two runs by the third inning, but TMU made their mark in the bottom of the third after a sacrifice fly from Ethan Roberts scored Mascarello. Karvelas followed with an RBI single to left field to even the score in the fourth inning (2-2). Union took back the lead in the top of the fifth, but Roberts took charge in the seventh to score Mascarello, while Williams saved the day with a clutch RBI single to center for the walk-off win (5-3).
LEADERS
Mascarello had a day at the plate after going 2 for 2 with two runs and one walk. Karvelas went 1 for 2 with one run and one RBI, followed by Roberts who went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Williams who went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and one walk.
